Beyond the intellectual benefits of keeping one's mind sharp and countering the effects of memory loss, classes provide an excellent environment for older adults to get out and socialize with like-minded people.

Older folks can choose to enroll in educational classes to rekindle old interests or develop new ones. If you're not sure where to get started, try some of the following suggestions.

Try looking at your local colleges, cultural institutions and community centers such as libraries often offer a variety of courses.

Pick up a long-neglected hobby or learn something new (an instrument, a foreign language) or get involved in your community (volunteer or attend a local event). Check out your local recreation, community and senior centres.

In addition to attending classes, Internet-savvy seniors can enjoy learning more about the web OR Take a class or join a club, Go on a weekend trip to a place you've never visited.

Spend time in nature (take a walk, go fishing, enjoy a scenic view) Healthy aging means finding activities that you enjoy, the possibilities are endless.

The important thing is to find activities that are both meaningful and enjoyable. Whatever your preference, taking time to nourish your spirit is never wasted.
