Hatley Castle
Program Type: Activity
Description: The castle is a magnificent 40-room replica of a 15th century Edwardian castle. The grand family home was frequented by socialites, gentlemen farmers, business leaders, and visiting royalty. Ishiburo Kishida designed the beautiful Japanese Gardens at the world renowned Butchart Gardens, and also designed the Japanese Gardens that add another level of beauty to Hatley Park.
you will find old growth forests and serpentine trails mingling with formal gardens, a rare ecosystem, and a bird sanctuary on a lagoon. At the centre of it all is a magnificent castle, built in 1908 by former Premier of British Columbia and coal baron, Lord Dunsmuir. Hatley Castle is surrounded by heritage buildings that hearken back to the Royal Roads Military College era.
