Hawaiian Dance

Program Type: Activity

Program Code: 8441

Description: The Hula dance is one of Hawaii’s oldest cultural traditions and is often accompanied by either Hawaiian music (mele) or a traditional Hawaiian chant. Two types of Hula will be taught, the Hula Auana (modern style) and the Hula Kahiko (traditional style).

The hula portrays the lyrics of the song in a visual dance form, using the hands that tell the story, while the hips sway to keep the rhythm of the dance. This is an excellent form of exercise – easy and light on the body yet great for the core, muscles and joints.
